Gateshead have been hit by the news that top scorer Danny Johnson will miss the rest of the season with a fractured metatarsal.

The striker suffered the injury in the Heed’s defeat against Maidstone United last weekend and club therapist Annie Davis confirmed that Johnson will miss the final four games of the Tynesiders season.

Speaking to the club’s website Davis said “Danny has broken his metatarsal but we’re just waiting on it to be reviewed by a foot and ankle specialist to see whether it is a stress fracture as suspected which would be the best case scenario.

“Stress fractures are easier to manage and have a much quicker projected return.

“Still, he will miss the remainder of the season because he’s got to be in an aircast boot for between four to six weeks.

“After the boot comes off it would just be a couple of weeks rehab so he’s set to be back in time for the start of the season”.
