York City have announced the midfielder Simon Heslop has been appointed as the Club’s new captain.

The 29-year-old was informed of the news by manager Jackie McNamara earlier today.

The York-born midfielder, who joined the Club earlier in the summer on a two-year deal, takes over the armband following Russell Penn’s departure at the end of last season.

Defenders Jack Higgins and Matt Fry meanwhile have been appointed vice captains.
