Dover Athletic manager Andy Hessenthaler says his ten men were magnificent against table toppers Woking.

The Whites were two minutes plus stoppage time away from claiming a point against the side who started the day with five wins from their opening six matches.

Toby Edser’s late strike consigned the Whites to defeat, who had played over 70 minutes with ten men following Kurtis Cumberbatch’s dismissal.

Dover took the lead despite being down to ten men, before being pegged back to 1-1 four minutes before the break.

The Whites restricted their opponents to limited opportunities in the second period, but their defence was finally breached late on.

“Our boys were magnificent today. I really want to talk about our players, I thought we were brilliant,” Hessenthaler said.

“They’re top of the table and we’ve matched them all the way, and we’ve done it with ten men up until the 87th minute.”
