After much consideration and long deliberation by both Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division club Hitchin Town and Jonny McNamara, it has been decided that the silky winger will be joining Vanarama National League South side Hemel Hempstead Town for an undisclosed fee and sell-on clause.
An approach was made by Hemel in May and the Canaries have placed on record how professional and respectful Hemel have conducted themselves throughout negotiations.
A former Hitchin youth team player, McNamara re-signed for the club in the close season of 2014 from neighbours Arlesey Town having played for Stotfold in between.
McNamara was torn between staying at Hitchin and playing at a higher level next season and it was with a heavy heart that he has decided to move on and test himself in the National League South.
McNamara said: “I have had a fantastic two years at Hitchin Town and made many friends with players, officials and supporters. I will cherish my memories at Hitchin and wish the lads and supporters the very best of luck for next season.”
Hitchin manager Mark Burke said: “Jonny is an exciting young prospect that has served this club with great distinction and I am sure he will rise to the challenge of playing at a higher level.
“I would like to thank him for his services as he has been a great character to have within the squad and I have enjoyed working with him over the past two years. I wish him the best of luck for the future and hope our paths will cross again”.
