Southport FC manager Liam Watson has praised Phil Hodgkinson for leaving the club in ‘a great state’ as he prepares to take over 75% of Huddersfield Town.
Current Town owner Dean Hoyle announced last month that he has agreed to sell the majority of the club to Hodgkinson, though the deal is yet to go through pending EFL approval.
Hodgkinson has been at Southport as a director and shareholder since September 2017, and manager Watson has spoken positively of Hodgkinson’s impact.
When asked by the Southport Visiter if he was surprised by the move to Huddersfield, Watson replied: “I always thought things like this can happen because he’s an ambitious fella.
“He’s left Southport in a great state. He’s settled any creditors we’ve had and sorted a brand new pitch.”
