Jeff Hughes said Tranmere Rovers were ‘gutted’ to have conceded such a late goal against Chester FC to draw 2-2 at Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon.
Rovers led for the majority of the game until Ryan Astles’ 93rd minute volley equalised to give Chester a point.
Hughes told TRanmere PlayerHD: “We had worked so hard with 10 men that we thought we’d done enough but a shanked cross and shot flew into the bottom corner.
“We were at fault for the way we started the second half but I think we were a bit unfortunate to concede the second one.
“We tried a few too many flicks and the pressure was built on us by ourselves. There was a 10 minute spell when we were awful at the start of the second half and created our own problems.”
It was the Northern Irishman’s first taste of a Tranmere-Chester game at Prenton Park, and the midfielder said it was an enjoyable occasion to be involved in.
“I’ve really been enjoying my football this season and the mood around the place is upbeat and the atmosphere for the game was great and enjoyable to play in.”
