Chester midfielder Sam Hughes has signed a new one-year contract with the club – keeping him at the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium through the 2016/17 season.

Hughes, 18, is an Academy Graduate at Chester – and signed his first professional contract with the club back in the summer.

The talented youngster notched his first National League goals for the club in the incredible 8-2 win last Tuesday against Aldershot.

Following the announcement, Manager Steve Burr said: “I’m delighted, especially as he’s one of the lads that has come through the Academy.

“He’s progressed very well. He’s a lad who is always eager to learn; and we want to get him as high as we can with his football.

“There’s real potential with Sam, and we’ve already seen how he has coped with being in the team – and he’s done very well. There’s obviously still a lot to learn – we’re just delighted with how he’s developed.

“It’s been a pleasure having him in the squad this season – and he’s earned his way into the team.”
