New Torquay United signing Axel Óskar Andrésson has set his sights on trying to force his way into Iceland’s 2018 World Cup Finals squad.

The 19-year-old defender, who has just joined the Gulls on a month’s loan from Reading, is an established international at youth and Under-21 level.

“Iceland is in the World Cup Finals for the first time, and I am going to try and get into the squad,” Andrésson told United’s website.

“If you don’t aim high, what is life all about? I have been in the Icelandic squad since I was 15 years old, always playing above my age.”

He recently played in Euro 2019 Under-21 qualifiers against Spain (0-1) and Estonia (3-2), and Iceland currently lie third in their group behind Spain and Northern Ireland.
