Barney Williams has left relegated Welling United to remain in the Vanarama National League with Braintree Town.

The popular Wings full-back has been player of the season for the past two campaigns.

Wings boss Mark Goldberg had this to say after Williams’ departure: “Barney deserves an opportunity to play at the highest level possible, therefore we didn’t want to stand in his way and we wish him well at Braintree”

In the process of joining the Iron, Williams will be re-united with Jamie Day, who brought him through into the Wings first-team via Cambridge United’s London satellite academy.

Williams had a year left on his contract but has departed from Park View Road on a free transfer.
