According to reports, the Isthmian League is set to be terminated although a decision is yet to be fully reached on if it will be declared null and void or if final placements will be worked out based on a points-per-game procedure. This could also be the case in the SCFL after video conferences meetings between the FA and league officials on Monday night and Tuesday.

The National League which runs the National premier, as well as the north and south divisions including Eastbourne Borough are keen to resume the 2019/20 season whenever possible. However, leagues that are placed lower down the ladder are not working towards resumption.

This decision by the Isthmian League will be a major cause for concern for clubs like Worthing and Hastings, amongst others, as doubts will be cast on if they’ll be promoted or not. Meanwhile, a statement by the Isthmian League on Tuesday afternoon stated that a message has been sent to all clubs by the chair of the Isthmian League, Nick Robinson.

Nick Robinson’s comments didn’t give much away as the issues were centered on how the season will end amid issues of player contracts and government support. However, it would be of interest to individual clubs with the main points focusing on how the season will end.

He noted that the Alliance Leagues held several conference calls on Monday night after the league board, whilst the Northern Premier and Southern Leagues met during the weekend to determine how they would proceed. He added that calls were also made between them and the Step 5/6 clubs.

According to him, the Step 3 and 4 Leagues also share the frustration of the clubs as it is taking too long to determine if the 2019/20 season should end now, and on what basis the decision should be taken. One would wonder what decision to bet on, and the chances that it could turn out successful. Talking about chance, NoviCasino has options in place to boost your winning chances when you make a bet. Regardless, the integrity of the competition has to be preserved and this means that one solution has to be applied across all National League systems, although it’s a daunting task and could be impossible.

Nick went on to add that the Isthmian, alongside the Northern Premier and Southern Leagues, are unanimous on a decision to terminate the 2019/20 season immediately. The Step 5/6 clubs also offered support for the decision to immediately terminate the season.

However, it remains to be seen if this will be done based on determining the final placements via a points-per-game system or the season declared null and void as this cannot be determined until the National League makes a final decision on how it wants to proceed.

He pointed out that the National League wishes to be able to continue the season at some point while the feeder leagues do not support the notion because the clubs lack the financial resources to honor the contracts of players indefinitely.

Therefore, Step 3 and 4 Leagues have already started the process to terminate the season. However, the decision has to be ratified by the FA Council and this will result in a short delay as the relevant documents are submitted, distributed and approved.

As the process is ongoing, amid a final resolution by the National League on how they wish to proceed, competition issues together with implications that will arise from promotion and relegation will be addressed.
