Hartlepool United manager Dave Challinor agreed that the pitch at FC Halifax Town was unplayable last night.

Pools were set to face Halifax in the National League, but a frozen pitch meant the match was called off around two hours before kick-off.

Challinor said: “It’s tough. The pitch, it’s not playable.

“I feel for everybody. I came up here at half 2/3 o’clock; our kitman’s had COVID so we were entrusted with setting the kit up.

“We set the dressing room up and obviously had a look at the pitch. The covers were on it, where the covers are at the moment, but the pitch at the top end was fine, it was playable.

“Turned up, expecting the game to be on. Again, I’ve gone in the changing room, (Hartlepool assistant manager) Joe (Parkinson)’s come out and had a look, gone ‘it’s a bit frosty’.

“I’ve come out and had a look and it’s a completely different pitch than it was only just over two hours ago.”
