Michael Jackson has today been appointed as Tranmere Rovers’ new assistant-manager to work alongside Micky Mellon.

Current backroom staff members Paul Carden and Shaun Garnett will continue their roles at the club as first-team coaches.

Jackson is no stranger to Prenton Park, having served the club over two spells as a player, making more than 100 appearances and scoring 8 goals.

After finishing his playing career, Jackson moved into coaching and has worked alongside Mellon at Shrewsbury Town for the past two seasons, helping The Shrews to promotion into League One.

Mellon said: “Mike is someone I know very well. I worked very closely with him during my time at Shrewsbury and the ways we want to play marry up.

“We’re looking forward to working together again at a club we are both very familiar with from having spent time here as players”.
