Alfreton Town have confirmed the signing of Ryan Jennings from league rivals Curzon Ashton.
Jennings has signed a one-year deal with the Reds.
Jennings began his career with home-town club Stockport County and joined then Premier League Wigan Athletic in 2012.
He was then loaned to Accrington Stanley in 2015 but injury ruled him out of a first appearance.
Jennings returned to Wigan and made his first professional appearance in a 2-1 Carling Cup defeat to Bury in August 2015. He then had spells with Cheltenham Town and Grimsby Town, playing a part in Grimsby’s promotion winning-campaign to the Football League in the 2015/16 season.
After returning to Wigan, Jennings was released in June 2016 and last season had spells at eventual champions AFC Fylde and also Curzon Ashton.
Alfreton boss John McDermott was pleased after acquiring the Reds fifth summer signing: “I’m delighted to have signed Ryan for the upcoming season; it’s another very strong signing. I said a month or so ago I wanted to bring players in which suit us, and suit the style of football we want to play and Ryan is another individual who does that.
“He didn’t get much of a run out at Wigan but was on the fringes of the first-team when he was there; he has had excellent spells at various clubs, I know him well from his spell at Grimsby also. He is a clever player, tricky and is a natural winger which is what we need.
“He can go past players, he’s quick, I can switch him to either flank and he can score goals too. He is not afraid of a tackle and he’s my type of winger. He thrives on running at his man and importantly distribution. He’s a player perfect for us.
“It’s our fifth summer signing and will continue to progress and churn more out. It’s very exciting, season tickets are doing well and there is a real buzz here. All the staff are doing a great job of getting things ready and I am very happy to join a club which is very organised and very professional. I’m pleased to secure our fifth summer signing”.
