John Sheridan could be set for a return to the Chesterfield hotseat.

The former Sheffield Wednesday star was in charge at the Derbyshire club from 2009 to 2012, and has today left his role as Carlisle United boss.

The 34-cap former Republic of Ireland international has been strongly tipped to be named as Martin Allen’s replacement at the Vanarama National League strugglers, as the Spireites desperately try to avoid a sensational third successive relegation.

John Pemberton has been in caretaker charge since Allen’s departure on 27th December.
