Torquay United’s players had one of their most intense days’ training so far under manager Gary Johnson yesterday, report Devon Live.

The Gulls prepared to pick themselves up from the disappointment of FA Cup defeat at the weekend and make the most of successive home National League South games against St Albans City on Tuesday (7.45pm) and Concord Rangers on Saturday.

Johnson did some pretty straight talking, revealing: “I’ve had to give them a little jolt, just to let them know that I am not going to accept anything below what I think is outstanding.

“There was individual energy on Saturday (0-1), but not a team energy to beat a Woking team which didn’t have many shots or opportunities, but did have more combinations in their play on the day, and that disappointed me.

“We can’t be too up or two down, and although the lads know that I am disappointed to be out of the Cup, we can’t do anything about that now and we’ve got to move on.”
