Torquay United manager Gary Johnson may have eased Saikou Janneh back into action off the subs’ bench in the midweek 1-0 win over Wrexham, but he has still described his latest loanee from Bristol City as ‘a top new signing’ ahead of Saturday’s trip to National League play-off rivals FC Halifax Town (3pm).
Janneh, 19, visibly lifted the Gulls’ attack over the last half-hour against Wrexham, and Torquay fans will be eagerly waiting for the team news from The New Shay to see whether the Gambian-born forward, back after knee ligament surgery, starts.
Johnson said: “I thought Saikou looked very comfortable and confident when he went on.
“He’s just a bundle of energy and joy at the minute, because he’s so desperate to play football.
“He and Reidy (13-goal leading scorer Jamie Reid) know each other’s game very well from last year, and he gives us an extra string to our bow up front.”
