Steve Johnson has stepped down as assistant manager of AFC Portchester.

The news was released by the club in an Instagram post saying “The club regret to announce the resignation of Steve Johnson as first team assistant manager/coach.

Steve’s increased work load within the FA Council and Royal Navy FA is having a detrimental effect on his duties within the club and Steve feels he is no longer able to give his role 100% input and that it’s not fair on the players or the club to continue. Steve hasn’t ruled out a return in the summer in some capacity which will not require the same commitment.

The club would like to thank Steve for his efforts over the last few seasons with the first team and hope to see him back later in the year in some capacity.

The club are working hard behind the scenes trying to recruit his replacement and hope to announce something over the coming week.

Paul Kelly”
