Devon Live say that Torquay United boss Gary Johnson is ready to use all his managerial experience to handle the aspirations of both his senior goalkeepers, Shaun MacDonald and Alex Bass, as the promotion-chasing Gulls head towards the always-important Christmas and New Year period.

Speaking before Tuesday night’s National League South game away to fellow promotion chasers Dartford (7.45pm), Johnson hinted that he would keep faith with MacDonald, despite the return to fitness of ambitious young Portsmouth loanee Bass.

“It’s up to me to make sure that I keep both these quality goalkeepers happy,” said Johnson. “But Shaun has put himself into a position where he’s not just a No.2.

“Credit to him – what he’s done over the last ten or so games is confirm himself into a first-team goalie’s.

“But going into Christmas and the New Year, when injuries or plenty of other things can happen, in any eventuality we’ve got two first-team keepers ready to play.situation.”
