Torquay United manager Gary Johnson says he will be keeping tabs on Gary Warren after the 35-year-old defender returned to Exeter City just three games into his month-long loan spell.

Warren was recalled by City last week but wasn’t even on the bench for their 5-1 home win against Oldham Athletic on Tuesday night. He was an unused substitute yesterday when City won again – this time 3-2 at Macclesfield Town.

City are currently second in the Sky Bet League Two title race – and manager Matt Taylor has obviously decided Warren is the type of experienced player he needs in his squad for the run in. Johnson, though, would welcome the player back in a heartbeat.

“He was happy here – and that was the good thing,” said Johnson.

“He was enjoying it and he was a leader for us. But if your parent club calls you back, they call you back.”
