Stalybridge Celtic have signed 25-year-old goalkeeper Grant Shenton, who becomes the latest to make the switch from Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division Tameside neighbours Ashton United.

Shenton first came to the fore with FC United of Manchester, where he spent four years.

He moved to Ramsbottom United in August 2011 and went on to make in excess of 200 appearances – many of them as skipper – as he matured into one of the best keepers in the Northern Premier League.

He switched to Ashton United in the summer of 2016 but broke his arm in a pre-season game and missed the start of the campaign as a result.
