“We have deserved the win and have shown a lot of good signs.” That was the message from Tamworth top scorer Danny Newton as he caught up with Matt Panter of the Tamworth Herald to discuss the home victory against playoff rivals Brackley Town.
First strikes of the season from Styche, along with club captain Paul Green saw us run out 2-1 winners, and make it 9 points from a possible 12 at the GST Gas Services Stadium at The Lamb so far in 2017.
Newton continued ” “I thought the lads did well to be fair. We grafted for each other from the start. We have not kept the clean sheet which is disappointing but we defended well all day and we have won our headers. Brackley are a big physical side but we have dealt with them all day.”
Reflecting on recent setbacks via injury and suspension, Newton said “This is was first game where my knee has felt somewhere back to normal since December. I felt like I could open out, sprint and had a lot of energy whereas with other games recently I have just been trying to get through them. I am starting to feel good again. I feel like I have got my second wind again and I am not worrying about my knee, so that’s good.”
