Evo-Stik League Southern Barnstaple Town are looking forward to giving their Mill Road home a major makeover with the legacy left to them by a late fan and a Football Association grant.

Thanks to supporter Keith Jones who left them money in his will when he passed away, the Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South & West club’s officials are planning to replace grass terraces with tarmac, install new dugouts, upgrade their floodlights and kitchen and erect a new stand to replace the old one at the stadium.

In a statement on their website, Barum chairman Jasmine Chesters said they were “deeply indebted to Keith Jones”, a “special follower” who enabled them to successfully apply for a match-funding grant from the FA and finally make the long awaited improvements to the Devon ground following their promotion as Western League runners-up last season,.

She added: “Small clubs like ours depend on their volunteers and we are no exception. The team are now playing at the highest level they have ever played at and I hope that Barnstaple and the area are proud of them.

They are nearly all local boys and they have worked hard to get where they are today, they deserve your support.”
