Cray Wanderers have announced the signing of centre half Jay Leader from Ryman Premier Grays Athletic.

Jay was a product of the youth set up at Dagenham & Redbridge where he made his way into the non-league game playing for Essex Senior League Bethnal Green before signing for Aveley where he was club captain.

He stayed at Mill Field when he joined Grays in August 2014 and was the Players’ Player of the Year last season. He played over 60 games for the Blues scoring 4 times before signing for the Wands.

Wands manager, Tony Russell is very excited about the signing of Jay.

Tony says “This is a major coup for Cray to sign a player of Jay’s quality. He was highly sought after by many other Ryman League clubs and speaks volumes for the ambition of the club for Jay to come and play for us.

Of all the players I have seen around the leagues he is the only player on a par with Ben Payne which is a tremendous prospect for the club”
