Scott Leather’s Altrincham career has come to an end after he rejected a new deal at The J.Davidson Stadium and decided on a fresh start with another club.

The versatile defender was one of four non-contract players new manager Neil Young wanted to retain from last season’s squad, along with James Lawrie, Damian Reeves and
altyMichael Rankine.

The other three are still deliberating, but Leather has told the Alty boss he will be leaving after deciding his future lies elsewhere.

Leather made 179 appearances and scored seven times for Altrincham – his local club – over four seasons.“Of course it is disappointing, but I understand people will get better offers,” said Young. “Scott informed me he was moving on, and I believe he has accepted an offer from another club.

“All I’ll say about that is I only want people here who are fully committed to what we are trying to do to make Altrincham as successful as possible.

“From day one, the search has been on for the right players who can take us forward, and if Scott’s departure suggests a need for another defender, I’d say we were actively looking, anyway.

“The others who have been made offers know I need an answer in the next few days. By the end of next week, at the very latest, I need to know where we stand, so we can get on with putting together the strongest possible squad.’”

After recruiting midfielder Charlie Joyce from Southport, Young is hopeful of signing a new keeper in the next few days.
