Jack Midson has paid tribute to his special relationship with player-manager Sammy Moore after the former AFC Wimbledon pair combined to open the scoring in Leatherhead’s 1-1 draw in the FA Cup.
Leatherhead held Isthmian League Premier Division rivals Billericay Town to a 1-1 draw at Fetcham Grove. The two sides will meet again in Essex next Thursday evening with an FA Cup second round tie at Wycombe Wanderers the prize.
Midson gave Leatherhead a 21st minute lead in this clash as he darted in front of the Billericay defenders and glanced Moore’s cross past the goalkeeper and into the net. The veteran forward’s goal was later cancelled out by Billy Bricknell’s penalty.
Having previously played together at AFC Wimbledon, Moore and Midson are well acquainted and Midson stressed that the knowledge of each other’s game has been extremely helpful.
He said: “It does help knowing people and playing with them before. The likes of Lee Minshull, obviously I’ve played with Tom Richards before and Sean [Clohessy] so you’re still getting that relationship that clicks straight back.
“Me and Sammy are pretty much together every day anyway for our business. We’ve got a good connection.”
