Dan Gallagher has moved from Leatherhead to rivals Dorking Wanderers in the Vanarama National League South.
The combative central midfielder was an ever-present for Nikki Bull’s men last season and was part of the team that reached FA Cup second round against Wycombe in 2017.
Assistant boss Martin McCarthy said: “The club was approached by Dorking to speak to Dan and he saw it as an opportunity to play at a higher level. He has been an excellent player for us and we want to wish him all the best. No one wants to lose player of Dan’s quality but I believe we have youngsters who are more than capable of stepping up and our preparation starts tomorrow night at training.”
Upon departing, Gallagher had a message for the Tanners faithful:
“Thank you to all the fans for everything they did for me. The support they give the club and players had always been brilliant. Nothing will change how highly I think of Leatherhead FC as a club and the people associated with it.
“Thanks to Nikki and all the backroom staff for developing me as a player and a person since the first day I walked through the door. Personally, it feels like it’s the right time to move on and test myself at the next level.
“I wish Leatherhead all the best in the future.”
