Former Huddersfield Town and Birmingham City manager Lee Clark was in attendance as Hartlepool United were beaten 1-0 at home to Ebbsfleet United at the weekend, report the Hartlepool Mail.

Pools are firmly in a survival fight in the Vanarama National League, with just three points separating them from Solihull Moors in the final relegation place, and manager Craig Harrison parted company with the Victoria Park club last week after just one win since November. The former Middlesbrough defender Matthew Bates is in current caretaker charge alongside Paul Jenkins, who was absent from the dugout at the weekend for personal reasons.

Pools’ financial troubles have been well documented of late, and the club’s struggles could be a factor in opting to give Bates the reins for the remainder of the campaign, though Clark remains strongly linked.
