Leiston midfielder Gareth Heath has left Victory Road following his contract expiry this month.
It goes without saying that during his time at Victory Road Gareth has become a ‘legend’ for the Blues with his outstanding contributions as the club has enjoyed continued success. He joined in the summer of 2010 with the club very keen to gain promotion from the then Ridgeons (Eastern Counties) Premier Division and his opening season saw the club more than achieve its target.
Gareth was instrumental in the club winning the title and reaching the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round as well as the Quarter Finals of the FA Vase scoring over 20 goals along the way. The following season his performances and goals (again over 20) helped the club win the Ryman Division One (North) title at the first attempt also gaining a place in the Ryman Division One (North) Team of the Year, a feat he repeated a year later in the Ryman Premier Division Team of the Year after his first season at step three.
A firm fans favourite, Gareth has played over 250 League appearances scoring over 100 League goals, a tremendous return from midfield and along the way has scooped a multitude of end of season awards.
Gareth had the following to say “I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone at the club for their support over the years I have spent at Leiston and to all the supporters who have always sung my name and pushed me on through the years. We have had some great memories and times together and I wish you all the best moving forward. I know I’ve played well this year and can continue to play at this level so I’m sure I’ll see you all sometime in some capacity. A massive thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Last season Gareth featured in 59 of the Blues 60 games in all competitions and netted the final goal of the season at Enfield Town which was his 11th League goal of the season and his 103rd League goal in total. Overall he massed 345 appearances for the Blues scoring 135 goals.
