Guiseley’s youth system is expanding and will now run teams from Under 13 – Under 16’s from next season so they are looking for players who will be in those age groups to come along and trial.
David Currie, Head of Youth Development and Youth team manager stated, “As the 1st team have progressed on the field it is vital that the Academy and Youth team continue to do the same.
“Adam Lockwood has said from day one that he wants the link between the youth at Guiseley AFC and the 1st team to be strong and we talk daily about our youth team players.
“Our 1st team compete in the National League against the likes of York City and Tranmere Rovers and need to strive to do the same at youth level.
“Whilst we are not a professional club, our attitude, preparation and performance has to be at a professional level, as it is in the 1st team.”
The teams will train once/twice a week and playing on Saturday’s against semi-pro, representative and pro clubs. Players are more than welcome to continue to keep enjoying playing on a Sunday with their mates in addition to playing for the Academy.
“We think it is important that young players still have the option to play on a Sunday as we feel grassroots football forms an important role in any young player’s development, both socially and emotionally. In addition to this we want to link with junior clubs and for them to see Guiseley AFC as a suitable route for their better players.”
“We are looking for players who are looking to play pro-Academy level football. These players may have previous experience within an Academy, play representative football (City Boys etc) or just believe that they can play at the level required.”
