The mid-season shake-up of Torquay United’s squad has started with the end of loan spells for three players – Rhys Murphy and Callum Evans of Forest Green Rovers and Josh McQuoid of Luton Town. All three deals, which have lasted three months, expire this week, and their departures are imminent.
None were at Monday’s training session in the wake of the Gulls’ FA Trophy exit at the hands of Maidstone United at the weekend. Former Barnsley midfielder Evans, 22, has made 12 appearances, with striker Murphy, 27, scoring once in nine injury-interrupted games and former Nothern Ireland international McQuoid, 28, hitting the net twice in 16 matches.
Head coach Gary Owers is known to have discussed the possibility of at least one of that trio remaining at Plainmoor, but there has been no confirmation of that option.
