Long Crendon make a trip into the unknown on Saturday as they visit London Rangers for their first game in Uhlsport Hellenic Division 2 East.
The club on the Bucks/Oxon border has risen sharply through the leagues with three successive promotions and now embarks on a new challenge in the Hellenic League. Manager Gerald Reilly has largely kept faith with the successful squad from last season with the addition of two or three new players.
Off the pitch, former Chinnor manager Ryan Davis has been brought in to assist Reilly and he is excited about seeing the side in action. “We have a bunch of very talented young players and I have no doubt they are ready for the step up”, he said. “The biggest challenge for the boys will be consistency, you can’t afford to be sloppy in the Hellenic but if they can adapt quickly to that, I have no doubt they will compete very well as the ability is all there.”
Aside from a couple of long-term injury absentees, Long Crendon will be without skipper Alex Farley and Bill Williment for the opening day fixture, with both Archie Pettingell and James Wassell hoping to prove their fitness beforehand.
Squad for the game from: Joe Fograscher, Scott Hardy, Tom Lethbridge, Nathan Brownsword, Josh Lunn, Dino Bonwick, James Wassell, Matt Wakelin, Dan Reilly, Tom Sykes, James Hawkes, Liam Gabard, Steve Downes, Ben Thomas, Harry Pettingell, Archie Pettingell, Oli Lethbridge.
