After nearly five years with Bishop`s Stortford, Johnny Herd has been released by the club.

Herd joined Stortford in the summer of 2012 and made 191 appearances for the Blue Brazil, scoring 3 goals.

After turning down a trial at Chelmsford City in the summer, he was appointed captain by Gordon Boateng and continued in the role for the majority of games following the appointment of Steve Smith and Mark Hawkes.

He captained the side for the final time in last week’s Herts Senior Cup victory against Hoddesdon Town.

Herd helped Blues survive their second season in Conference North as well reaching the FA Cup First Round in 2012 as well as reaching five county cup finals, winning the Herts Charity Cup in each of the last three seasons.
