Leiston’s long serving defender Blake Saker has left Victory Road to join Ryman League Division One (North) Wroxham for the remainder of the 2016/17 season.

Blake, who joined the Blues in 2004, has made over 500 appearances in all competitions for the Blues despite brief spells at Felixstowe & Walton United and Lowestoft Town. Blake joined up with his new team mates yesterday in their Boxing Day victory over Norfolk rivals Norwich United.

Blues boss Glenn Driver said this on Blake’s departure “Blake has been a great servant to Leiston Football Club and he has been a pleasure to work with. I played with Blake as a player and always knew he was a special player.

As his manager I have always found him great around the dressing room but more so a true professional on the pitch. Blake is a people’s person and is very much thought of not only at Leiston but around the non league scene. After having a conversation with Blake we both felt it was best for him to get minutes and he understands his chances will be limited here at Leiston this season.

However, we have been talking to Blake for a few weeks and he will return for pre-season as a player coach, helping with the development of our youth set up and will assist our head coach Tony Kinsella. Myself and Tony see Blake as a massive part of where we want to take the club in the future.”
