Manager Guy Hayes has conceded Debenham LC will have to take the FA’s decision to expunge their 2019/20 results on the chin.
Pending approval from the FA’s Council, it has been decided all league seasons from Steps 3-6 on the non-league ladder will be declared null and void due to the coronavirus pandemic.
For Thurlow Nunn League First Division North outfit Debenham, this has stopped their pursuit of a place in next season’s FA Cup in its tracks.
Entry into the world’s oldest cup competition is determined on a points-per-game basis, and with the form the ninth-placed Hornets were in before everything ground to a halt, they looked a good bet to meet the criteria.
“First and foremost health and safety for everyone is the most important thing, but it is frustrating we are not able to finish the fixtures,” said Hayes.
“There are pros and cons. If you are at the bottom of the league you are happy, if you are going for promotion then you are disappointed.”
