David Lynch has been appointed as South Shields’ head of academy and first-team recruitment.
A former Blackburn Rovers scout, Lynch was most recently head of player recruitment at Scarborough Athletic, and is relishing the opportunity to help drive the Mariners forward.
He will work alongside the management teams at academy and first-team level on identifying potential new players, analysing matches and scouting opposition teams, as a big effort is made to grow that aspect of the club. Lynch, from Whitburn, is also a successful entrepreneur, having set up his own business in 2009 and driven it to a position where it enjoys a seven-figure turnover.
The business now has an experienced management team in place, which over the last two years has given him an opportunity to focus on his other real passion, football.
Lynch said: “It has always been my ambition to work in football full-time and this is a fantastic opportunity for me to do that at a brilliant club.
“After meeting with the management it quickly became clear how much ambition there was to move forward both on and off the pitch and I’m delighted to now be part of the team helping to drive that.”
