Macclesfield Town legend Danny Whitaker has come out of retirement and re-signed for the club as a player.

The midfield man, 39, had retired earlier this year but he has now agreed a one-year deal with Tim Flowers’ side.

Whitaker, who has made over 450 appearances for the Silkmen across two playing spells, was named as new boss Flowers’ assistant alongside Gary Whild last month.

The ex-Port Vale, Oldham Athletic and Chesterfield player has previously been assistant head coach at the club under Daryl McMahon and Mark Kennedy.
