Macclesfield Town’s stay in non-league is over after they secured promotion back to the fourth tier for the first time since 2012.

It was a 2-0 win down in Hampshire that sealed the deal today, as Eastleigh were put aside by John Askey’s team. The Silkmen could have possibly still secured promotion if Tranmere Rovers slipped later in the day, but there was no need for any help from elsewhere in the end.

Tyrone Marsh set them on their way after just three minutes, and after the hour, Mitch Hancox was there at the back post to make it two. Almost 500 Macc fans in the away end finally had that feeling they had been waiting for at full-time, bringing an end to six years in the Vanarama National League for a club who were Football League members for 15 years until their relegation in 2012, even reaching the third tier in 1998.
