Macclesfield Town have been wound up this morning in the High Court.

The club have debts of over £500,000. It was reported last week that the Cheshire club had been given a seven-day extension to their winding-up order over unpaid tax.

The adjournment was said to be to allow a takeover to go through, which the club had said was ‘at an advanced stage’, with entrepreneur Robert Benwell named as the prospective buyer.

More to follow.
