Torquay United are set to receive around £85,000 from the sell-on clause they negotiated when they sold their former captain and centre-half Angus MacDonald 18 months ago.

MacDonald, 25, moved from Barnsley to their Championship rivals Hull City on January’s Deadline Day last week for ‘an undisclosed fee’. There has been speculation in Yorkshire that MacDonald, who made his Tigers debut in their 2-1 defeat at Preston North End on Saturday, moved to the KC Stadium for anything up to a £1 million. But DevonLive understands that the actual fee is somewhere between £600,000 and £700,000.

The Gulls’ cut is calculated on the profit which Barnsley made on the former Reading and Salisbury City player, and the Tykes paid United £100,000 for him in August 2016.
