Hartlepool United manager Craig Harrison has named Carl Magnay as new club captain.
The defender is going into his third season with the Victoria Park club, after joining during the summer of 2015.
During that time he has made just under fifty appearances for Pools, scoring three goals.
Magnay put pen-to-paper on a new contract this summer and will now lead the club into the National League season as they look to bounce back into the Football League at the first time of asking.
“It’s a great honour for me,” Magnay told Pools PlayerHD.
“This is a great Club that I feel lucky to represent so, going in to my third season, to be chosen as the player to lead the team is obviously a huge honour.
“We have got an excellent squad this year, some good players with strong CVs so it’s quite humbling really to be asked to be skipper so I am delighted about it.
“I think this is the right time for me; I am 28 now and I think this is perfect timing for me to step up.
“I know there are extra responsibilities for me off the pitch now so I am looking forward to taking on those roles and I want to try and create a good link between the players and the fans.”
Goalkeeper Scott Loach is set to be named as Vice-Captain.
Pools kick off their National League campaign with a home game against Dover Athletic next Saturday.
