Terry Casey has accused the borough council of standing in the way of Maidstone’s progress and claims they should be ashamed.

Stones co-owner Casey says the council want “stupid” money for a strip of wasteland needed to build the 600-seat West Stand at the Gallagher Stadium. United won their fight to buy the land at a hearing last year, when councillors overturned the initial offer of a long-term lease.

But the asking price is now the stumbling block and Casey has had enough.

He said: “We can’t move on with that because Maidstone Borough Council are just so obstructive and unhelpful.

“As far as I’m concerned, they are determined to stop us developing and I don’t know why. It mystifies me and they should be ashamed of themselves quite frankly.”
