Maidstone boss Jay Saunders is odds-on favourite to be named Macclesfield’s new manager.

He is priced 1/10 with Skybet to succeed John Askey, who left the National League champions to take over at Shrewsbury last week.

Saunders has been in charge of his hometown club for seven seasons, winning three promotions and keeping United in the National League for the past two years.

He didn’t feature at all in the early markets to succeed Askey but there was big movement on Tuesday.

The bookmakers seem to think it’s a done deal but there’s nothing official from either side.
