Maidstone manager Jay Saunders has demanded a reaction as his side bid to avoid the drop.

Relegation worries deepened after a 1-0 defeat at Solihull Moors on Tuesday night left them only three points clear of the bottom four. They meet play-off contenders AFC Fylde at the Gallagher on Saturday with Saunders calling for a response.

He thinks one win from the final three games should be enough to survive but even that won’t be easy having won only two of their past 25 league matches.

Saunders said: “I’ve told the players what I feel and I’ll expect a response but we’ve got to get a side from somewhere that’s going to get us three or four goals in the next three games, and that’s a problem.

“We’ve got 47 points and I still think 50 points would just about see you there but we’ve been saying that for months and we haven’t been able to get there. We’ve just got to keep working hard.

“Fylde’s not going to be easy – they’re one of the best sides we’ve played.”
