Maidstone United have announced Blair Turgott as the team’s new captain.
The decision was made following discussions between Turgott, Harry Wheeler and Tristan Lewis.
Stones boss Wheeler said: “After speaking with Tristan, we both agreed that Blair would be the best candidate for the captaincy. Since we have been here he has led by example in terms of his professionalism, work rate, performances and goalscoring output.
“He has the full respect of the dressing room and just as importantly he has a fantastic relationship with the supporters. Blair is a confident lad and we are sure that this new responsibility will only serve to further enhance his performances and his influence within the squad.”
24-year-old Turgott said: “It is a great honour to be made captain of Maidstone United. I feel very privileged and I am delighted to accept the role.
“It was a little bit surprised when Harry called me in to ask me to take the armband, but I am looking forward to taking on this new responsibility. I won’t be a shouter or a screamer but I will look to lead by example on the pitch with my performances and attitude.
“I will let my football do the talking, but of course I will be there to guide and talk to any of the players when I think they need it.”
