Ddefender Ben Swift admits it will be a long end to the season unless Margate improve their form soon, after the Blues fell to a 3-0 defeat to Enfield Town at Hartsdown Park on Tuesday evening.

Three second-half goals from the visitors condemned Margate to a defeat which leaves them 12th in the BetVictor Isthmian Premier League and still needing consistency having not won more than two games in a row since September 2019.

Swift said: “It will be a long end to the season if we don’t change our results as soon as possible. Everybody is down at the moment but then if we win again on Saturday then everyone is on a high.

“I don’t think we struggled tonight necessarily, as at half-time at 0-0, I thought we were doing okay, and second half, we started okay, and if we took our chances then it is a difficult game. But as soon as we let one in, we panic.

“One goal leads to two, and two becomes three, and then it is a mountain to climb.”
