Marine have signed Clitheroe manager David Lynch ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup game with Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Southport skipper took over as Clitheroe’s player-manager last May at the age of just 27. An agreement between the two Northern Premier League North West sides will now see Marine take over Lynch’s player registration for 14 days, in order for him to be involved in the momentous cup clash this Sunday.
Marine boss Neil Young explained: “With new loans being very difficult to arrange at the moment and no league football after Sunday, as well as any potential issues that may come out of the COVID testing, I made an approach to Clitheroe to see if we could register their manager David Lynch as a player for our cup tie with Tottenham Hotspur. David has played for me before, fits everything we are in terms of his attitude and professionalism, and has experience at National League and National League North, winning it with Halifax.
“There are not many players with that CV who are not cup-tied and who will fit in with our fantastic group. I understand a move like this is unprecedented, but due to the current circumstances of no other football, we are really grateful that Clitheroe, and in particular, their director of football Carl Garner, have allowed David to take part in this game for us.”
