Sky Sports commentator and Woking assistant manager Martin Tyler was punched in the back during his team’s match with Wealdstone last night, says Cards manager Alan Dowson.
The incident is said to have happened in the aftermath of Wealdstone, who were the home side, scoring the game’s only goal in the final few minutes. A home fan reportedly struck Tyler, who was in the dugout at the time.
72-year-old Tyler, who previously worked with Dowson at Walton & Hersham, Kingstonian and Hampton & Richmond Borough, linked up again with the former Bradford City and Darlington defender this summer after he took the Woking reins.
In a quote shared on Twitter by the Non-League Paper’s David Richardson last night, Dowson said:
“He got punched in the back, I gather, which is not very good.”
