Matlock Town have signed 28-year-old winger Marcus Marshall, formerly of Alfreton Town.
Marshall began his career with Blackburn Rovers where he spent his youth career and would go on to get promoted to the then Premier League Rovers side in 2008 with Sam Allardyce handing him his first team debut when he came on as a 76th-minute substitute for Morten Gamst Pedersen in a 4–1 victory over Grimsby Town in the 1st Round of the League Cup. The game would be Marshall’s only outing for the Blackburn first team and he spent the rest of the campaign in the reserves.
Marshall would have a loan spell with Rotherham United in 2010 before joining the Millers permanently making fifty-one appearances and scoring four goals during a two-year spell which included a loan spell with Macclesfield Town.
In 2012, Marshall would leave Rotherham United and link up with Bury FC for a season which would include two loan spells with Grimsby Town after the Shakers recalled the winger due to a bid from Luton Town which Marshall turned down to return to Grimsby Town.
Following the conclusion of his spell with Bury FC, Marshall joined Morecambe in 2013 on a two-year deal but had a difficult first season with the Shrimpers and would make a season-long loan move to Lincoln City for the 2014/2015 season.
For the 2015/2016 Marshall signed a one deal with Grimsby Town leaving one his contract expired to join up with Boston United on a one year deal that included a loan spell with Coalville Town.
In 2017, Marshall linked up with Alfreton Town playing for the Reds a total of eight times and spending a loan spell with Hyde United that saw a return of two goals in four games.
