Sefton Gonzales has signed for Matlock Town following his departure from South Shields this summer.

The former Colne striker scored five goals in a short-term spell at Shields last season, helping cement their place at the top of the Northern Premier Division in what would transpire to be a sadly null and void campaign.

After becoming Matlock boss Paul Phillips’ fifth new signing, the Gladiators manager told the club’s website:

“I’ve had the lad before and he’s gone on to score goals. He’ll be both the perfect foil and the target man we’ve been crying out for and will compliment our forward line with his physicality.

“He can play as a number nine or play at the side of someone and he’s quick. A lot of teams have been after him so I’m really delighted to get this deal over the line, and all being well, he’ll perform how we know he can and we’ll have a right player on our hands.”
