Prospective Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney has given an update on the impending takeover at the National League club.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator/star McElhenney has said that a ‘donation’ has been made to allow squad strengthening before the close of the transfer window, with official completion of his and Ryan Reynolds’ takeover not expected before the close of the window.

The pair’s approach to take over was overwhelmingly backed in November by Wrexham Supporters Trust members, enabling them to press ahead with seeking to rubber-stamp the deal.

McElhenney tweeted yesterday evening:

Update: the @Wrexham_AFC takeover is still not 100% official and unfortunately it appears the handover will not be complete before the transfer window closes. So Ryan and I have made a donation to the Club to allow them (us? Folded hands ) to make some moves. Up the town! #WrexhamIsTheName
